UMD Women Receive First Commitment From Class Of 2020

The Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey program received its first verbal commitment from the Class of 2020 on Friday when Clara Van Wieren of Michigan verbally committed to the Bulldogs on Twitter.

“So excited to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey at the University Minnesota Duluth,” she tweeted.

The Okemos High School freshman has played the past few seasons with two of Michigan’s most prestigious AAA hockey programs — HoneyBaked and Little Caesars. Both compete in the Illinois/Michigan-based High Performance Hockey League.

In 2016-17 with Little Caesars 16U, Van Wieren was the league’s third leading scorer with 11 goals and four assists in 13 games. According to her Twitter profile, Van Wieren will play for HoneyBaked’s 19U team next year after playing for its 14U team previously.

Bulldogs graduating senior forward Demi Crossman played for HoneyBaked 19U before coming to UMD.
