Sunday’s Olympic Digest: Rooney Backstops USA To Win, Irwin Scores For Canada

The 2018 Olympic women’s hockey tournament continued Sunday in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Here’s a look back at the action and what’s ahead for Monday.

Sunday’s results

USA 3, Finland 1: Bulldogs goaltender Maddie Rooney made 23 saves in her Olympic debut with Team USA, which trailed 1-0 after the first period. Former Bulldog Sidney Morin (14:53 TOI) also made her Olympic debut.

Canada 5, OAR 0: Brigette Lacquette picked up an assist in her Olympic debut and Haley Irwin scored in the second period to put Canada ahead 2-0.

Monday’s games

Switzerland vs. Japan, 1:40 a.m. (NBC Sports Network): Japan played Sweden tough in a 2-1 loss on Saturday, so don’t expect Lara Stalder and the Swiss to run up the score like they did against Korea.

Sweden vs. Korea, 6:10 a.m. (NBC Sports Network): Pernilla Winberg, Maria Lindh and Sweden will try to move to 2-0 against Sarah Murray and her unified Korean team.
