Saturday Olympic Digest: Murray’s Team Korea Routed By Swiss In Opener

The 2018 Olympic women’s hockey tournament got underway Saturday in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Here’s a look back at Saturday’s action and what’s ahead for Sunday.

Saturday’s results:

Switzerland 8, Korea 0: An energized crowd was on hand to watch the Olympic debut of the Korean unified team, coached by former Bulldog Sarah Murray. Unfortunately for that home crowd, it didn’t get to celebrate a goal. Recent UMD graduate Lara Stalder (2-1–3, +4) scored twice in the third period for Switzerland, the defending bronze medalists.

Sweden 2, Japan 1: The Swedes, which feature former Bulldogs Pernilla Winberg (2 SOG) and Maria Lindh (3:13 TOI), picked up the game-winner early in the third period.

Sunday’s games:

United States vs. Finland, 1:40 a.m. (NBC Sports Network): Maddie Rooney and Sidney Morin make their Olympic debut against Finland, which features Eveliina Suonpaa.

Canada vs. OAR, 6:10 a.m. (USA): Brigette Lacquette makes her Olympic debut alongside fellow former Bulldogs Haley Irwin and Jocelyne Laroque against the Olympic Athletes from Russia.
