The NCHC held its annual media day Wednesday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, site of the 2018 Frozen Faceoff.
Below are a few stories from today from the Forum Communications team:
- Minnesota Duluth coach Scott Sandelin and Karson Kuhlman were on hand to answer questions from the media. The News Tribune’s Samantha Erkkila got video of some of their answers previewing the season.
- The NCHC saw 12 underclassmen leave school early this season, which is the highest since the league was formed. Of those 12, five were sophomores and three were freshmen. Six of the league’s eight teams lost freshman. Denver, the NCHC and NCAA champion, survived unscathed surprisingly.
- The NCHC began media day Wednesday with a press conference celebrating Xcel Energy Center, including representatives from Xcel Energy Center, the Minnesota Wild and St. Paul. The league looked into joining the Big Ten and WCHA in going to campus sites, but decided a neutral site championship was best for the fans, student-athletes and the league’s bottom line.
We’ll have more as the week continues. The News Tribune also has a UMD hockey insert running late next week previewing the men’s and women’s upcoming seasons.
