Don’t let all those college hockey countdowns on Twitter fool you. The season is very much underway, with the women’s WCHA coaches holding their preseason conference call and releasing their preseason poll/awards on Tuesday.
Here are some more dates to keep an eye on as we approach real games later this month.
Tuesday, Sept. 12: WCHA women’s preseason conference call; preseason poll and awards announced
Saturday, Sept. 16: First official day of full practices for NCAA Division I women’s programs (Wisconsin his actually hosting the South Korean national team in an exhibition Saturday night). The Bulldogs are scheduled to practice Saturday afternoon at Amsoil Arena.
Monday, Sept. 18: NCHC releases its preseason all-conference team, voted on by media
Monday, Sept. 18: USCHO.com releases its preseason Division I women’s poll
Tuesday, Sept. 19: NCHC releases its preseason media poll
Wednesday, Sept. 20: NCHC Media Day at the new home of the Frozen Faceoff, Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul
Saturday, Sept. 23: UMD women host the Minnesota Whitecaps in an exhibition at 4 p.m. at Amsoil Arena
Last week of September: USCHO.com releases its preseason Division I men’s poll (exact date TBD)
Also last week of September/first week of October: The Duluth News Tribune publishes its UMD men’s and women’s hockey season previews (exact dates TBD)
Friday, Sept. 29: UMD women open regular season with 7 p.m. nonconference game against Penn State at Amsoil Arena.
Saturday, Sept. 30: The first official day of full practices for NCAA Division I men’s programs. The UMD men will play a 7:07 p.m. exhibition against Alberta that night at Amsoil Arena (Game 2 between UMD women and Penn State is at 3 p.m. that day).
Friday-Saturday, Oct. 6-7: UMD men open regular season with the Ice Breaker at Amsoil Arena featuring the Bulldogs, Minnesota, Michigan Tech and Union.
